Keanu Reeves believes he and Sandra Bullock could make an amazing third Speed movie if they got the chance. The 1994 action movie Speed was a big hit largely due to the great chemistry between Reeves and Bullock. The two actors became an iconic screen duo that decade.
In a recent joint interview, Reeves said about the possibility of Speed 3: “I mean, you know – we’d freakin’ knock it out of the park.”
“There’s no formula. It just is,” Bullock said of their natural on-screen presence together. “Before I die, Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera again. Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe.”
“It does feel like there’s a call for something that wasn’t done,” Reeves added. “I would love to work with you again before our eyes close.”
Whether their next project is Speed 3 is uncertain. Only Bullock returned for the poorly received 1997 sequel Speed 2: Cruise Control, which she later said she regretted doing.
Reeves turned down Speed 2 because he didn’t like the script about being on a cruise ship, though he loved working with Bullock on the first film.
Looking back, Reeves and Bullock both agreed the chemistry on the set of Speed came very naturally.
“We had an affection,” Reeves said. “And the characters have an affection. I think we trusted each other, right?”
“People can hate each other in movies and you feel electricity. We didn’t really look at each other much because we were battling the elements. That’s what made it electric too,” Bullock said.
She praised the trust she felt with Reeves, saying “Anytime I threw something his way, he swatted it right back and you just go, ‘Okay, there’s my partner.’”
