The screens will be blessed with Arnold Schwarzenegger once more. In the 1982 film Conan the Barbarian, Schwarzenegger played a warrior seeking brutal retribution against the sect that murdered his family. A critically acclaimed 1984 sequel and a 2011 remake starring Jason Momoa followed the film’s box office failure in theaters and appeared to end the franchise.
However, according to TheArnoldFans, Schwarzenegger disclosed at the Arnold Sports Festival that he will reprise his role as Conan in King Conan, a follow-up to Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer from 1984. With Christopher McQuarrie slated to write and direct, the project appears to be gaining momentum.
“They just hired a fantastic writer/director who did Tom Cruise’s last four movies,” Schwarzenegger added. “They just hired [Christopher McQuarrie] to write and direct King Conan.”
Additionally, Schwarzenegger reveals some preliminary plot points for Conan the Barbarian 2, stating that it will take into account the fact that he is currently in his late 70s. “Now, what they do is that they write the part,” he added. “They don’t write them like I’m forty years old, you write it to be age-appropriate. I’ll still go in there and kick some ass, but it will be different.”
Regarding the plot of the sequel, viewers can expect to see an elderly Conan battling to retake his country. Additionally, Schwarzenegger hinted at the abundance of spectacular visuals and grandeur on exhibit.
He says, “With King Conan, it’s a great old story that Conan was forty years as King, and now he gets forced out of the kingdom and there’s conflict, of course, but somehow he comes back and there’s all kinds of madness, violence, magic and creatures and stuff like that. And now, of course, there’s all kinds of special effects. The studio has plenty of money to make those movies really big, so I’m looking forward to all of those projects.”
