Ardent fans of House of the Dragon have been anticipating the release date of Season 3 for a very long time. Before that, Ryan Condal, the showrunner, previously reassured everyone that the fourth season of the Game of Thrones prequel series would mark its conclusion.
In HBO Max’s compilation video of what will be available on the platform in 2026, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, another Game of Thrones spinoff, will premiere on January 18. Fans were given a brief preview of the forthcoming season.
Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, discussed the upcoming lineup as follows: “We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe. Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have so beautifully captured. And this Summer, House of the Dragon is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.”
During a visit on the Escape Hatch podcast, Condal talked of the iconic film The Maltese Falcon. When asked about what he accomplished on House of the Dragon, he described it as a “long, long, long shoot.” He went on to say that they were “doing six-day weeks from August to the end, just to finish on time so that the post schedule wasn’t touched because it takes so long to make these goddamn dragons.”
He said, “Now, also knowing there’s only one more left to go and feeling we can leave it all out on the field because we’ve started the writing process for Season 4, which will be the last one.”
