Actor Jackie Chan tells the crowd at the Beijing premiere of his next movie that a Palestinian boy from Gaza said something that made him cry. The actor had not made any previous comment on the ongoing genocide and its heinous effects on children.
He stated to the audience, “Recently I watched a video, as soon as I saw that child speak i started crying. He was asked what will you be when you grow up. He said children on our side don’t grow up. My tears just came falling down instantly. Gaza…The children of Gaza. Every day being bombed, you see. When he said that sentence, he had no expression. Growing old is a form of happiness. So here, I congratulated all the elderly…because you can grow old.”
The actor added how the words resonated within him and left him feeling sad and sympathetic. He urged the world community to intervene, stressing the significance of defending children’s rights and guaranteeing their welfare. The video highlights the unfathomable hardships that Gaza’s youth confront in the midst of the current conflict.
Jackie Chan’s impassioned response has sparked long internet discussions and brought the serious humanitarian situation afflicting Gaza’s children to the attention of people worldwide.
Human rights organizations released the video together with reports and photos showing the terrible conditions in Gaza, where children suffer from severe psychological trauma, constant bombardment, the devastation of homes and schools, and scarcity of food and medicine.
