It has been confirmed that Cillian Murphy will return to act in the upcoming movie “28 Years Later.” This is the long-awaited sequel to the hit films “28 Days Later” and “28 Weeks Later.”
In an interview, the head of Sony Pictures said that Murphy’s role will be “surprising” and his character will “grow” in some way. This reunites Murphy with the original director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland from “28 Days Later.”
Murphy played the lead character Jim in that 2002 movie, where he woke up to a world devastated by a rage-inducing virus. However, he did not appear in the 2007 sequel “28 Weeks Later.”
For this new movie, Murphy joins a talented cast including Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. His involvement comes after recently winning an Oscar for his performance in another film, “Oppenheimer.”
The creators plan for “28 Years Later” to kick off a new trilogy in the franchise. A second movie may be directed by Nia DaCosta, known for films like “Candyman” and “The Marvels.”
“28 Years Later” is scheduled for release in theaters on June 20, 2025, over two decades after the original’s release. Fans are excited to see Murphy return to this iconic horror/sci-fi series.
