Well-known actress Anne Hathaway has long been a big name in Hollywood, yet how the public sees her has often been talked about. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the 41-year-old spoke openly about the industry’s changing views and her own self-confidence.
Becoming famous as a teenager in movies like “The Princess Diaries” and “Brokeback Mountain,” Hathaway’s career has lasted over two decades. However, her success was once overshadowed by what Buzzfeed called the “Anne Hathaway Syndrome” in 2015 – a feeling that society disliked her despite her achievements.
Looking back on her early days, Hathaway revealed that she was once told she wasn’t “sexy” enough. Unfazed, she responded, “I know how I am on a Saturday night.” She understood that the cultural idea of “sexy” was narrower then, with men’s views being “very dominant and very immature.”
While Hathaway admits to being an “intense” person, she embraces this quality. Michael Showalter, who directed her upcoming romantic comedy “The Idea of You,” agreed with this description, saying, “She’s passionate. She has strong feelings about things that can seem unmovable.”
Showalter found common ground by discussing astrology, stating, “Once we talked about our star signs, it opened up a new way for us to understand each other. I’m not really into astrology, but even I thought, ‘Oh, I get it now. You’re just really intense because you’re a Scorpio.'”
As views in Hollywood change and Hathaway takes on roles once thought to be unsuitable for her, the passionate Scorpio seems ready to get the appreciation she deserves as she starts this new phase of her successful career.
