Chalamet played the legendary character of Willy Wonka in Paul King’s musical prequel “Wonka,” in addition to reprising his role as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two.” While filming James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” he also managed to work with Martin Scorsese on a new Bleu de Chanel advertisement.
Chalamet was about to have an eventful year ahead of him even if the release of “Dune: Part Two” wasn’t postponed until 2024 due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. This proposed to be an excellent opportunity for the 27-year-old actor, who dislikes being slothful. Chalamet discussed his passion for being active in a recent cover article for GQ. He also reminisced on how difficult it was for him to reduce his career schedule throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chalamet revealed that he had to devote additional time in quarantine than filming his minor part in Adam McKay’s satirical farce “Don’t Look Up.” He had to endure 14 days in quarantine in 2020 when he traveled to Boston for the movie because of COVID regulations. When he was permitted to return to the set, he was quite excited to work and socialize with people. To the point where several of his co-stars, including Jennifer Lawrence, found his excitement unappealing. By the time I got to set I was buzzing,” Chalamet explained. “That was the day Jennifer said was the most annoying day of her life, working with me and Leo. I exploded out of my room.”
The fact that Lawrence used pot on filming to get in character as her hippie counterpart might have added to her frustration. She made jokes about being the object of practical jokes all the time because she was so drunk when promoting the movie. “I was a real target,” Lawrence said. “Everyone was fucking with me. … I guess because I was high. Easy to fuck with.”
