Paul Thomas Anderson always packs a punch when the opportunity presents itself. That being said, anything created by Paul Thomas Anderson is always anticipated by the audience to be a game-changer.
Well here is what it is, the first trailer of the much-anticipated film is finished, but the public is yet to get a glimpse of it. However, a few lucky ones indeed got a chance to see it firsthand.
The film’s original title was Soggy Bottom, now rechristened as Licorice Pizza The new title is a reference to the Southern California-based record store chain that was popular in the ’70s.
The trailer had its premiere in London in Prince Charles Cinema before the screenings of Beavis and Butt-Head Do America and American Graffiti. Those who witnessed it said that it contained footage shots and gave an impression of 1970’s aesthetic some even went and said it had some striking similarities with the French New Wave films.
That cannot be confirmed or deny at the moment. Overall the trailer certainly has caught the attention of cinemagoers and cinephiles alike. Some drawing philosophical interpretations of the aesthetic sense of the director some looking for an indie vibe. Needless to say, it’s indeed impressive. Not much can be told or revealed about the story in general as there have been some limited screenings of the trailer. It was screened at The American Cinematheque and the New Beverly.
Paul Thomas Anderson indeed has a thing for David Bowie when it comes to music and Life on Mars, which was featured in the trailer, new additions like Maya Rudolph and Tom Waits have been featured as well. Their participation wasn’t known until now.
The cast includes Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s son, Cooper Hoffman, as well as Bradley Cooper, Alana Haim, Benny Safdie, Nate Mann, Skyler Gisondo, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Destry Allyn Spielberg, and Sean Penn.
The film is set to be released on November 25th or 26th. So the trailer would be out shortly. Till then stay tuned.
