The InSneider reports that Mads Mikkelsen will star with Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming thriller, What Happens at Night.
The idea centers on Peter Cameron’s eerie novel What Happens at Night, which tells the story of an American couple who go to a small hamlet in Europe to adopt a baby, but things are not as they appear. Although Mikkelsen’s role in the movie is unknown, the actor is always an asset to any production.
The movie is summarised as, “It is a dream-like story of a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. They check into a cavernous, largely deserted hotel where they encounter an enigmatic cast of characters including a flamboyant chanteuse, a depraved businessman and a charismatic faith healer. Nothing is quite as it seems in this strange, frozen world. As the couple struggle to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about themselves and the life they’ve built together.”
A Hawaiian-set criminal drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Blunt, and Dwayne Johnson is one of Scorsese’s many ongoing projects.
He has also contemplated The Life of Jesus, which is based on Shūsaku Endō’s 1973 novel, and a Frank Sinatra biopic, which was considering DiCaprio and Lawrence to star, but both appear to have been shelved.
Additionally, there has been discussion about Scorsese directing Erik Larson’s The Devil in the White City, which would once again star DiCaprio, but that project has been under way hell for a while.
