David Fincher’s enigmatic American Squid Game project is finally moving forward. Filming for the new series, Squid Game: America, is scheduled to start on February 26 of next year, according to a recent entry on the Film and Television Industry Alliance website. This is the first official update for the show in months, even though Fincher hasn’t personally confirmed anything yet. It has been announced that Cate Blanchett’s mysterious character at the end of Squid Game Season 3 will not make an appearance in Squid Game: America, although the cast is still unclear.

Although Squid Game was initially intended to be a one-season series, Netflix approved two more seasons, which debuted in December of last year and in July of this year. Even though Squid Game’s second and third seasons had enormous viewership, people felt that neither was as good as the first.

Additionally, Netflix came under fire from fans for dividing Squid Game into two final seasons when it was originally intended to be one and then splitting it into two, each with fewer episodes.

Before the premiere of Squid Game Season 2, news about David Fincher’s Squid Game project was originally revealed in October of last year. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the original creator of American Squid Game, has verified that the show is legitimate and has given it his wholehearted backing; however,  Fincher has not yet publicly acknowledged his role in the adaptation.

According to the reports, the American Squid Game remake will have a completely different cast of characters and be entirely unrelated to the original series. Squid Game: America’s launch date has not yet been revealed by Netflix, and because filming is still several months away, it probably won’t happen for some time. The most likely release window will be in 2028, potentially closer to Christmas, when the initial two seasons of Squid Game were released, if filming begins at the beginning of the next year.
