Joseph Kosinski reveals there are now active talks about an ‘F1’ sequel, hang on, as well as teases ‘TOP GUN: MAVERICK’ is currently being written. Earlier this year, Joseph Kosinski’s racing-adventure thriller F1, starring Brad Pitt, was released. Since then, the project has amassed a sizable fan base and achieved remarkable success at the global box office.
Director Joseph Kosinski stated that active negotiations are underway for an F1 sequel, reported by The Wrap and Entertainment Weekly. He disclosed that he has been “spit-balling” propositions with producer Lewis Hamilton and Brad Pitt, noting that Pitt has given some “very interesting” concepts.
Kosinski also noted that the film’s open-ended climax allows for Sonny Hayes’ subsequent segment, which may take him to the Baja 1000 off-road race. The decision to make a sequel will be based on how well-received it is.
The same filmmaker has announced that a sequel to the popular film Top Gun: Maverick is now in development. The concept for a sequel has been developed for many years. Cruise, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and director Tony Scott are anticipated to return in the 2010 Paramount Pictures announcement of plans for a sequel to the 1986 original.
In 2012, a screenplay was completed, but upon Scott’s passing, the project stalled. After Kosinski was brought on as director in 2017, production resumed. IMAX-certified 6K cameras were used to film in places throughout California, Washington, and Maryland between May 2018 and April 2019.
Kosinski’s revelation comes after actor Miles Teller disclosed in 2022 that he had been proposing a Top Gun: Rooster, sequel that would center on his character. Additionally, Teller said that he and Cruise were still in communication regarding the project. Screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie announced that he was working on Top Gun 3 in May of this year.
