‘Invincible’ Creators Promise Season 4 Will Be Even More Brutal: ‘You Never Want the Audience to Get Used to It’

Gore and cruelty have always been hallmarks of Invincible. One could argue that the show’s brutality is an essential component of its character.

It doesn’t appear that Season 4 will ease down with blood, sweat, and carnage after chronicling Mark Grayson’s difficult life as a superhero for three seasons.

Brutal scenes like the train carnage in Season 1, the crushing of Angstrom Levy in Season 2, and the Conquest fight in Season 3’s climax leave a lasting impression on viewers. Although Invincible Season 4 has not yet been released, it features a sequence so compelling that even its creators still cringe.

In an interview with The Direct, Robert Kirkman and Simon Racioppa, co-showrunners of Invincible, discussed how they continue to escalate the show’s savagery while also disclosing a sequence from Season 4 that will undoubtedly shock viewers.

As the program progresses, Invincible’s brutality becomes more intense. Kirkman acknowledged that “the escalation is deliberate,” and they are constantly considering “how to top that, so that [they] know where [they’re] going to go.” “It’s all about the emotion of the scene,” the co-showrunner continued, adding that “it’s never just done for gratuity’s sake.”

“We want to make sure that as the show progresses, there’s still that same sense of, ‘Oh, my god, what am I watching?'” he added. Kirkman explained that “you never want the audience to be able to get used to what they’re seeing, or to be numb to it.”
