Timothée Chalamet disclosed that while shooting a segment for Josh Safdie’s “Marty Supreme,” a background actor intimidated him during a Q&A with Robert Downey Jr. at New York’s DGA Theater. Chalamet stated, “I won’t say who, but there are a lot of non-actors in that motel sequence that I find really thrilling to work with, but sometimes it would take multiple takes to really get something out of them.”
“ And I’m really getting in the guy’s face, and I’m really trying to get him angry with me. I was saying to Josh, ‘He’s not getting angry with me, he’s not getting angry with me.’” Chalamet was wrong to think he wasn’t getting an upsurge from the anonymous extra.
“I did another take, and then the guy said, ‘I was just in jail for 30 years. You really don’t want to fuck with me. You don’t want to see me angry.” Chalamet laughed nervously and continued, “I said to Josh, ‘Holy shit, who do you have me opposite, man?’”
Chalamet is a contender for the Oscar for his role in “Marty Supreme,” which has already earned him Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards. Additionally, SAG has nominated him for an Actor Award.
