To direct one of the action scenes in Star Wars: Starfighter, Tom Cruise stormed the set. However, it turns out that he did it in his own very way, interfering with the shooting by descending his chopper in the midst of the set.
Additionally, Ryan Gosling, who starred in the film, said it was filmed on one of his infrequent days off. “I wasn’t there! Gosling said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, “It’s the one day I’m not there.”
“I worked on that movie the whole time. I get one day off, and Shawn [Levy] sends me a picture of him and Tom Cruise and Flynn [Gray],” he added. “They’re, like, in the mud. I was like, ‘What?’ and they were like, ‘Yeah, Tom Cruise flew his helicopter onto set.’ They were just shooting, and they heard a helicopter and they had to cut, and it was Tom Cruise. He lands in the middle of set, he takes a camera, and he just starts shooting the action scene. There’s a shot of him in the mud shooting Flynn. It was an incredible moment, and I don’t know why he waited for the one day I wasn’t there. I’m going to hope that was an accident.”
In a conversation with the New York Times, the movie’s director, Shawn Levy, disclosed that Cruise had recorded a portion of a lightsaber combat earlier this year. “Last week Steven Spielberg was here. And now Tom Cruise is wielding a camera, ruining his very nice shoes. Now when you see the movie, you’ll know that part of it was shot by Tom. I mean, how cool is that?”
On May 28, 2027, Star Wars: Starfighter debuts in theaters.
