Christian Bale has a note for anyone who takes on one of his most recognizable roles. He responded to the announcement of the upcoming Luca Guadagnino directed American Psycho remake at the U.S. premiere of his most recent picture, The Bride!, on Tuesday, March 3.
He said a few words to whoever brings the “bold” remake to the silver screen. Bale told The Hollywood Reporter that he had no specific performers in mind for Guadagnino’s portrayal of his iconic role, Patrick Bateman, the endearing Wall Street entrepreneur and covert serial killer he portrayed in the 2000 horror comedy.
“Whoever wants to give it a shot, give it a pop,” he said. “I loved making it with [director] Mary Harron so many years back, fantastic memories of it all.”
The actor continued, “Bold choice of anyone to try to do a — I don’t know if they’re doing a remake or what, I don’t know anything else about it. But all the best to ’em, I like brave people.”
At CinemaCon earlier this year, Guadagnino hinted at his Scott Z. Burns-authored American Psycho, which is reportedly an entirely fresh film rather than a remake of Harron’s 2000 original featuring Bale, as reported by THR.
In 2019, Bale told PEOPLE that his portrayal in American Psycho bewildered his wife’s grandparents. He added, “When I first got married [to wife Sibi], her grandma said, ‘So he’s an actor?’ ‘Yeah,’ she says. ‘Has he done anything? ‘Yeah, he did a film, it’s called American Psycho,’” the actor recalled at the time. “So Sibi’s mom took her a copy of American Psycho.”
