Recently, Cillian Murphy denied rumours that he may play Lord Voldemort in HBO’s Harry Potter series.
The actor clarified in an interview that he would not be playing the well-known antagonist, originally portrayed by Ralph Fiennes, in the Daniel Radcliffe flicks. Who is portraying the dark sorcerer remains unknown.
Cillian Murphy told The Times, “I’m categorically not. Can you make that the headline? But then existing in this world? Talking about yourself, going on f—— red carpets? It’s not healthy if you start to believe this shit, and I’m really bad at it too.” He added that he wasn’t skilled at “being a personality,” stressing he was simply “an average person.”
He previously stated on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that the rumours, which he mentioned his children occasionally showed him, had no formal basis. Murphy continued, “I don’t know anything about that.”
Voldemort has apparently been cast in the Harry Potter series by the creators. Redanian Intelligence, citing a source close to production, stated that he will appear in “several episodes”. HBO intended to keep the casting process a mystery until the debut season of the show in 2027 (via Comic Book Resources).
Interestingly, Cillian Murphy has reportedly been connected to roles other than Voldemort. He was apparently considered to play Professor Quirinus Quirrell in the HBO series, according to renowned industry scooper Daniel Richtman, who revealed this information on his Patreon.
