The classic criminal thriller featuring Robert De Niro is returning after 31 years. Heat is regarded as one of the best heist films ever made. Robert De Niro and Al Pacino feature in the 1995 movie. Christian Bale has revealed that he will be joining the ensemble of Heat 2, with a sequel in the works.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Austin Butler, Bale, Adam Driver, Stephen Graham, Ana de Armas, and even a reappearance of Al Pacino are among the speculated cast members. In an interview with Fox reporter Jake Hamilton, Bale first openly acknowledged his role; Hamilton subsequently disseminated the information on X.
In November 2025, rumors circulated that Bale would be appearing in the sequel directed by Michael Mann. The Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker will collaborate once more, their first collaboration since the 2009 crime drama Public Enemies.
Heat centers on career burglar Neil McCauley (De Niro), who wants to pull off one more big robbery before retiring. He is being pursued by Lt. Vincent Hanna (Pacino), and a monumental game of cat and mouse ensues. Adding to the plot, Mann’s 2022 book inspired Heat 2.
The movie serves as both a follow-up to the first film and a prelude to the novel. It will undoubtedly examine Pacino’s Lt. Hanna during his formative years as an investigator. The two crooks from the 1995 original film are likewise followed. According to rumors, DiCaprio would portray McCauley’s co-conspirator, Chris Shiherlis, who was first portrayed by Val Kilmer.
Heat 2 is anticipated to start filming in Chicago shortly. A release date has not yet been set. The sequel is scheduled for release in theaters in 2027.
