Robert Duvall, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 95, has been honored by Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
“It was an honor to have worked with Robert Duvall,” Pacino remarked. “He was a born actor, as they say; his connection with it, his understanding, and his phenomenal gift will always be remembered. I will miss him.”
“God bless Bobby,” De Niro added. “I hope I can live till I’m 95. May he rest in peace.” In “The Godfather” and “The Godfather Part II,” Pacino costarred with Duvall as Michael, the Corleone gangster family’s successor, and Duvall as Tom Hagen, his attorney and confidant. De Niro also played a young Vito Corleone in “The Godfather: Part II,” however, he never had a scene with Duvall.
On Instagram Threads, Viola Davis said that costarring with the “Tender Mercies” star in the 2018 thriller “Widows” was an “honor.” She added, “I was in awe. I’ve always been in awe of your towering portrayals of men who were both quiet and dominating in their humanness. You were a giant… an icon… ‘Apocalypse Now,’ ‘The Godfather,’ ‘To Kill a Mockingbird,’ ‘Tender Mercies,’ ‘The Apostle,’ ‘Lonesome Dove’… etc… Greatness never dies. It stays… as a gift. Rest well, sir. Your name will be spoken… May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
