HBO is working on a TV show based on the critically acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios. Craig Mazin, the co-author and showrunner of The Last of Us, will direct the series, according to Deadline, solidifying his position as HBO’s preferred lead for critically successful video game adaptations
“After putting nearly 1,000 hours into the incredible world of Baldur’s Gate 3, it is a dream come true to be able to continue the story that Larian and Wizards of the Coast created,” Mazin stated in a press release.
“I am a devoted fan of D&D and the brilliant way that Swen Vincke and his gifted team adapted it. I can’t wait to help bring Baldur’s Gate and all of its incredible characters to life with as much respect and love as we can, and I’m deeply grateful to Gabe Marano and his team at Hasbro for entrusting me with this incredibly important property.”
The context of Baldur’s Gate 3 is the Dungeons & Dragons world known as the Forgotten Realms. Players can create their own characters to embark on an adventure, just as in Dungeons & Dragons. However, it uses dice roll mechanisms to advance the game. The game’s plot can take many different turns depending on the player’s decisions and virtual dice rolls.
There are currently few facts available about the show’s plot and characters because it has only recently begun development.
