After his recent chat with Charli XCX on the Smartless podcast, Jason Bateman is coming under fire. The embarrassing interaction occurred during the February 2 installment of the show, when the British pop sensation chatted to hosts Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes.
Charli XCX discussed her experiences as an only kid during her interview on the SmartLess podcast. The pop singer revealed that as a result, she “miss[ed] out on a lot of conflict.”
“Would you love to have more than one kid or would you like to have a kid that has the same experience as you, the only child, and then you get to nurture and protect?” Bateman then posed this question to the singer.
Charlie XCX said, “That could change,” after considering her position on having children. “I love the fantasy of having a child, like naming it — it sounds so fun. But I’m like, that is exactly assigned to me as to why I should not have one, the fact that [naming it] feels like the coolest part about it.”
Then, noting his own experience, Bateman speculated that Charli might reconsider in the future. The actor remembered how his wife, Amanda Anka, had two daughters together despite her initial opposition to having children.
Fans were not pleased with Bateman’s question to Charli about having children. The star’s insistence on persuading Charli to have children has drawn criticism on social media. One user added, “btw, if a woman says she doesn’t wanna have kids, THEN THAT’S THE END OF THE STORY.”
