Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy, The Abandons) has been chosen as Kratos in Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios’ God of War, which will be available on Prime Video.
The series, which is based on a PlayStation video game with a medieval mythology concept, has been ordered for two seasons. Pre-production is currently in progress in Vancouver, and casting has started.
God of War, created by writer, screenwriter, and executive producer Ronald D. Moore (Outlander, For All Mankind), portrays father and son Kratos and Atreus as they set out to disperse the remains of their mother and wife Faye. While Atreus strives to teach his father how to be more humane, Kratos seeks to teach his son how to be a better deity through their experiences.
The franchise’s title character, Kratos, is a deity by nature and a Spartan by birth. Growing up in a militaristic culture, he became an army commander for his country until he struck a fatal bargain with the Greek god of war, Ares, and lost his soul in return for winning a battle.
Kratos defeated gods, animals, and mankind in ten successful games. In the process, he became a well-known figure in popular culture, renowned for his terrible past, unwavering fighting prowess, and stoic demeanor.
Kratos confronts something unfamiliar—his ten-year-old son, Atreus. The plot of the live-action series will mostly mirror that of the previous two games. The new show will revolve around this father-son dynamic, which started a whole new chapter in the storied franchise.
