Kit Harington Slams Game of Thrones Season 8 Petition, Calls It “Insulting” to the Creators

Kit Harington disclosed to the New York Times that the popular 2019 petition to remake “Game of Thrones” Season 8 with “competent writers” severely insulted him. The petition eventually received over 1.8 million signatures, surpassing its initial target of 15,000.

“That really infuriated me,” Harington remarked, praising the work of series authors D.B. Weiss and David Benioff. “Like, how dare you? Sorry, that’s just how I feel. I think it was a level of idiocy that can only come about through social media.”

When the last season of “Game of Thrones” debuted, Harington, who played Jon Snow in the HBO drama, informed The Times that he was in rehab.

Contemplating the effort he and every member of the production crew had put in, he was taken aback by the overwhelming criticism when he emerged. One battle sequence, according to Harington, required 55 days of nonstop filming.

In 2019, HBO CEO Casey Bloys, who was in charge of production at the time, stated that although he and the “GOT” team were cognizant of the demand, they never “seriously considered” paying attention to its requests for a reshoot.

“There are very, very few downsides to having a hugely popular show, but one I can think of is when you try to end it, many people have big opinions on how it should end,” he remarked. “The petition shows a lot of enthusiasm and passion for the show, but it wasn’t something that we seriously considered.”
