Sebastian Stan is boarding the Gotham Express. The actor is in discussions for a role alongside Robert Pattinson in “The Batman Part II” from DC Studios. Having portrayed Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in multiple Marvel films, Stan is accustomed to armored protagonists and antagonists. It’s uncertain who he will represent in the next Dark Knight quest and if he will be Bruce Wayne’s ally or enemy.
Filming for the forthcoming superhero sequel, helmed by Matt Reeves, is anticipated to start next spring in preparation for Warner Bros.’ October 2027 theatrical release. “The Batman” grossed $772 million at the global box office upon its theatrical debut in March 2022.
The sequel was originally scheduled to start main filming in November 2023. It was postponed due to the simultaneous strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America (via ScreenRant). Pattinson stated to Deadline in February 2025 that filming for The Batman 2 would begin “at the end of the year,” indicating the end of autumn or the winter of 2025.
Colin Farrell, who will reprise his role as Penguin in the sequel, starred in the Max offshoot of The Batman, which debuted in March 2022 and made $770.3 million.
Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Barry Keoghan as an Arkham Asylum patient who might be the Joker were among the cast members of the first film.
