“I’m Not Kissing a Girl Anymore”: George Clooney Says He’s Done With On-Screen Romance

George Clooney has formally ended his intimate on-screen rendezvous. The actor stated that he is no longer keen on kissing female co-stars on screen in a recent interview with the Daily Mail, published on Friday, December 12. This decision was made following an open discussion with his spouse, Amal Clooney.

“I’ve been trying to go the route Paul Newman did—’Okay, well, I’m not kissing a girl anymore,” George clarified. He claimed that after one of his noteworthy birthdays, he thought about growing older and came to an epiphany. “When I turned 60, I had a conversation with my wife. I said, ‘Look, I can still play basketball with the boys. I play with 25-year-old guys. I can still hang, I’m in shape. But in 25 years, I’m 85 years old. It doesn’t matter how many granola bars you eat, that’s a real number.’”

He has been an established actor in romantic movies for decades; most recently, he costarred with his friend Julia Roberts in Ticket to Paradise. George remembered telling Amal that filming a single kiss between him and Roberts required 80 takes. He said, “It took 79 takes of us laughing and then the one take of us kissing,” adding, “She was like, ‘What the hell?”

In addition to his acting decisions, George has been very forthcoming about his marriage. He revealed that he and Amal have never fought in an interview with CBS News in November.

He added, “Everybody gets ticked off when I say it—but we’ve never had a fight. We never had an argument. When you’re younger, you want to be right about everything,” the double-Oscar winner said. But now, he explained, many disagreements simply aren’t worth the energy. “You get to a point in life where you just go, ‘Why would that be a discussion or an argument?’” He claims that prioritizing peace over ego has kept their marriage strong, and it’s an attitude he’s obviously bringing into this new stage of his career.
