Tom Cruise–Ellison Clashed Over Mission: Impossible Budget
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Tom Cruise has a reputation for wrangling for his movies. According to a current report, Cruise and David Ellison, CEO of Paramount Skydance, disagreed about Mission: Impossible’s budget.  The allegedly wonderful connection between Ellison and Cruise has occasionally been problematic, according to a recent piece in The Hollywood Reporter about Paramount’s status. THR reported that Cruise was “unhappy” with Ellison following the hiring of former Paramount CEO Brian Robbins in 2021.

During a meeting about the final two Mission: Impossible movies, Cruise said he needed “tens of millions” of dollars in extra production funds. When Ellison suggested that Cruise “find some of the money on his own,” THR reports that Cruise began skipping production and marketing meetings if Ellison was there.

Eventually, Paramount acquiesced to Cruise, and the company says no rift ever existed between the two. As per the article, Cruise is still working with the company and hopes to start a third Top Gun film. Warner Bros. and Universal have rejected his purported deep-sea thriller, but he is still seeking financing for it.

It’s a mystery where things stand right now because Cruise recently visited the Paramount lot to “pay his respects” to the firm, according to THR’s source. According to reports, Ellison is also trying to buy Warner Bros., which would force Cruise to be as cordial as feasible with him.

Cruise and David Ellison have a far more substantial professional affair. The performer, with whom he has collaborated on 10 films, including versions of Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible, has received a ton of praise from the billionaire. In private, though, things haven’t always been easy.
