James Gunn Confirms Brainiac as Main Villain in Superman Sequel, Teases Lex Luthor Team-Up

Perhaps all the Redditors’ theories morphed into existence because, based on the reports, in James Gunn’s forthcoming Man of Tomorrow, Superman and Lex Luthor will forge a tentative partnership to battle Braniac. Since Gunn hinted at a draft graphic depicting an atomic illustration of a brain back in September, fans have been speculating that the movie’s main antagonist might be the iconic Superman foe Brainiac.

Apparently, in the Wrap, Brainiac is the main objective of Man of Tomorrow, which is why Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor and David Corenswet’s Superman are compelled to work together. It just makes it optimal for Brainiac to appear in the Superman sequel. Brainiac’s debut will probably benefit from the fact that he hasn’t been in a major Superman film. The list of iconic villains large enough to ignite a Superman/Lex alliance was never very long.

Brainiac, who is often portrayed as a green-skinned cybernetic being, might pose an imminent danger to both Superman and Lex since only his galactic brilliance can equal his alien desire to rule the cosmos.

“It is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together, to a certain degree, against a much, much bigger threat,” Gunn suspiciously stated. “And it’s more complicated than that. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I relate to the character of Lex Luthor, sadly.”

Fans at the time claimed that Brainiac was the ideal counterpoint to the astute but envious Luthor, who would probably be upset at being overrun once more. Gunn went on, “That’s the centre of Lex for me,” talking of Luthor’s uncontrollable envy. “Three years ago, before Superman came along, he was considered the greatest guy in the world, even with other metahumans and superheroes in the world. And then in one fell swoop, this guy comes in wearing a silly costume, with dimples, and a charming smile, and a great chin, and he’s forgotten.”
