When Top Gun: Maverick co-star Glen Powell agreed to work on the action-packed adaptation of The Running Man, it should have come as no surprise that the man who has hung over the side of a plane as it descended and hung from the world’s highest building had plenty of expertise to offer. Powell claims that the two discussed dos and don’ts over the phone for “two and a half hours”.
He said, “He basically told me how not to die!” as he appeared on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, November 7. “He also gave me running lessons. He said, ‘You should film yourself running because you don’t look as cool as you think you do.’ He was so right!”
In the end, Powell, who replaces 78-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger as Ben Richards in the remake of the 1987 film, made Cruise proud. The 63-year-old star of Mission: Impossible posted on Instagram that he and the other members of the Running Man ensemble “crushed it”.
Cruise is well known for his generosity and guidance. Powell disclosed in 2020 that the Minority Report star had paid for him to obtain an actual pilot’s licence!
