Glen Powell is not immune to criticism of Ryan Gosling’s iconic status. The popular “Anyone But You” actor recently took to X to address a widely shared statement by an unidentified Hollywood producer, who referred to Powell as the industry’s finest emerging talent and paid Gosling a stinging remark. The unidentified producer who talked to The Wrap, said that Powell is now a movie star “in the sense that audiences now go to movies to see him.”
However, the producer threw in a little Gosling dig when she said, “Unlike an actor like Ryan Gosling whose appeal is mostly limited to female audiences, Glen appeals to both females and males.”
“Gosling is a legend. I’m just Glen,” Powell responded, riffing on Ryan Gosling’s famous “I’m just Ken” line from “Barbie.”. With 100,000 likes and tally, the reception on the social networking platform soon gained notice.
Powell has become a major star during a period when Hollywood has had difficulty breaking through with new A-list talent. Hollywood’s ability to produce cinematic stars has diminished, according to George Clooney, who recently spoke with GQ magazine about trends at the prominent studios. “They haven’t developed stars the way the studio system used to,” Clooney remarked of Hollywood. “[Brad Pitt and I] kind of were at the very end of that, where you could work at a studio and do three or four films, and there was some plan to it. And I don’t think that’s necessarily the case anymore. So it’s harder for you to sell somebody something on the back of a star.”
Powell has begun working on a couple of upcoming endeavors, such as the comedy series “Chad Powers” on Hulu and Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man.”
