Trent Reznor’s multi-awarded industrial indie rock group Nine Inch Nails is teaming up to tackle the Tron: Ares soundtrack from Disney. The forthcoming science fiction film was revealed on Friday night at a D23 event. Similar to how NIN provided the futuristic soundtrack for Tron: Legacy in 2010, they are also liable for this Tron’s sound. When Tron: Legacy was first released, it ended up shattering soundtrack records.
The third movie in the Tron science fiction series is Tron: Ares. The story, which stars the comeback of Jared Leto, centres on a highly advanced program named Ares that is dispatched on a perilous journey from the digital realm into the actual world. This is humanity’s first interaction with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The filmmaker is Joachim Rønning. Along with Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson, the film’s original lead Jeff Bridges also makes a comeback.
The release date is October 10, 2025; production began in January of this year. After Reznor founded Nine Inch Nails in the late 1980s, the group was essentially a one-man show until 1989, when the album Pretty Hate Machine became triple platinum. Later, a revolving cast of musicians—including long standing collaborator Atticus Ross in 2016—joined Reznor on subsequent NIN albums and iterations.
Together, Ross and Reznor have established themselves as a strong cinematic music team. They have worked with director David Fincher on several of his films, including The Social Network, Mank, and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. In 2011, Social Network won the Original Score Oscar. They got nominated again in 2021 for Disney/Pixar’s Soul, which they won alongside John Batiste, with Mank.
