With his latest appearance as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, Channing Tatum hopes this could lead to a Gambit movie on its own. At the Blink Twice screening in West Hollywood, Tatum stated that he hoped the appearance would result in a full-length film about the character. Tatum’s unexpected appearance as the X-Men mutant in “Deadpool & Wolverine” coincided with his renewed conviction. Tatum and Reid Carolin, his producing partner, worked on an independent “Gambit” movie for 20th Century Fox for a period of four years. However, the project was abandoned when Disney purchased Fox in 2019.
In a late July Instagram post, Tatum expressed his gratitude to Ryan Reynolds for making his Gambit a reality. Reynolds “fought for me and Gambit,” despite the fact that “I thought I had lost Gambit forever.” In addition, he stated, “I will owe him probably forever. Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me. I love ya buddy.”
The “Magic Mike” actor called Shawn Levy, the filmmaker of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “a brilliant creator on every single level.” Tatum added, “All things happen for a reason,” to the Instagram post. “I’m so grateful to be in this movie. It’s a masterpiece in my opinion. And just pure badass joy. I was literally screaming in the theatre. LFG!!”
Tatum plays a billionaire computer magnate who takes his pals and some attractive ladies to his island via plane in first-time director Zoë Kravitz’s “Blink Twice.” The party spends several hours drinking and using drugs, and things go wrong.
Originally titled “Pussy Island,” Kravitz and E.T. Feigenbaum co-wrote the movie. Tatum remarked, “I still call it ‘Pussy Island.’ In my mind, it will always be ‘Pussy Island.’…It’s a little lame that our culture isn’t comfortable with a word but again, it’s not my body part and I think women weren’t comfortable with it even more than men, so it’s out of my hands.” Producers offered the cast “Pussy Island” hats and t-shirts preceding the title change, according to co-star Simon Rex. “PI” is still the name of the cast’s group text, according to Alia Shawkat.
