It appears that the much-anticipated follow-up to 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada is finally underway. The Hollywood Reporter claims that original producers Wendy Finerman and Aline Brosh McKenna will be rejoining to write the script and create the eagerly awaited sequel. Puck uncovered the news and disclosed that the sequel might centre on a fresh relationship between Emily Blunt’s Emily Charlton and Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly, even though no formal announcements had been made as of this writing.
The previous first assistant to Miranda now owns a high-end company that collaborates with Runway for advertising. Despite Miranda’s continued role as Runway’s Editor-in-Chief, the publication has suffered financially as a result of the collapse of the publishing business.
There’s no information on Anne Hathway’s Andy Sachs, the agog journalism graduate who led the original movie as Miranda’s second assistant, showing up in the follow-up, while it’s unclear if Streep and Blunt are set to play their respective roles. Regarding the potential for The Devil Wears Prada 2, she recently said in an interview with E!, “I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen.”
