Singer FKA Twigs (real name Tahliah Barnett) is suing actor Shia LaBeouf for $10 million. She claims he abused her when they were dating in 2018 and 2019.
The lawsuit, filed in 2020, accuses LaBeouf of sexual battery, assault, and causing emotional distress. The trial is set to start on October 14.
Barnett says she lost money and job opportunities because of LaBeouf’s actions. She also claims he gave her a sexually transmitted disease.
LaBeouf’s lawyer argues that $10 million is too much and would ruin LaBeouf financially. He says Barnett’s career seems to be doing well after their relationship ended.
Barnett’s lawyers say LaBeouf is trying to get private information about her that isn’t related to the case. They think he’s doing this to embarrass her.
LaBeouf has denied the abuse claims. His team says they need Barnett’s medical records to defend him properly.
Barnett’s lawyer says it’s wrong to suggest her success means she didn’t suffer. He believes she would be even more successful if not for the trauma she experienced.
The case has gotten a lot of attention because it involves famous people and talks about serious issues like relationship abuse.
