Dakota Fanning recently revealed the heartwarming gift-giving tradition Tom Cruise has kept up with her since they co-starred together in the 2005 movie War of the Worlds.
Speaking on Kelly Clarkson’s talk show, Fanning shared that when she turned 11 on the set of the film, Cruise gifted her her very first cell phone – a coveted Motorola Razr.
“I didn’t have anyone to call, but I wanted a Razr so bad. I must have been talking about it a lot because that’s what he got me. It’s such a great memory,” Fanning said.
But Cruise didn’t stop there. The actress, who played Cruise’s daughter in the Steven Spielberg-directed sci-fi hit, revealed he has sent her a gift every year since then – and it’s always been shoes!
“I loved shoes when I was little,” Fanning explained, “So from that birthday on, he always sends me shoes.”
Clarkson was delighted by the “random” yet “nice” tradition, joking that Fanning must have “a massive shoe collection brought to you by Tom Cruise!”
Now 29 years old, Fanning has been the recipient of nearly two decades worth of birthday shoe gifts from her former co-star.
War of the Worlds was a major box office hit in 2005, grossing over $600 million worldwide. It continued Fanning’s streak as a successful child actress following films like I Am Sam and Man on Fire.
