Brad Pitt’s 18-year-old daughter Shiloh has filed to legally change her last name, dropping “Pitt.” She will now go by Shiloh Jolie, taking just her mother Angelina Jolie’s surname.
Shiloh made the name change request on her 18th birthday, March 27th. A source says Pitt is “aware and upset” by Shiloh’s decision, as “he’s never felt more joy than when she was born.”
The source added the “reminders that he’s lost his children is not easy for Brad. He still loves all of his kids tremendously.” Pitt and Jolie’s divorce in 2019 after 12 years together has been difficult for the family.
Shiloh is not the first of Pitt and Jolie’s six children to distance themselves from the Pitt name. Daughter Vivienne, 15, recently dropped “Pitt” from her name in a Broadway playbill. Eldest child Zahara, 19, has also introduced herself using just “Jolie.”
However, Shiloh is the first to legally petition to drop her father’s last name. The reason is unclear, but it may relate to Jolie’s allegations that Pitt was abusive during their marriage.
In 2016, Jolie accused Pitt of physically assaulting her and their children on a flight. She alleged he “choked one child and struck another” while “grabbing Jolie by the head.”
A judge recently ordered Jolie to release non-disclosure agreements about Pitt, which her lawyers say will open the door to proving his “abuse.”
