Actor Chris Evans clarified an old photo that caused controversy online this week. The picture from 2016 showed Evans signing what some claimed was an Israeli bomb.
However, Evans says the object was not a real weapon. On Instagram, he wrote: “The object I was asked to sign is not a bomb, missile, or weapon of any kind.”
Evans explained the photo was taken in 2016 during a USO tour to support U.S. troops. “It’s an inert object used for training or display purposes only,” he stated.
The actor shared a quote from the Air Force confirming it was an “inert training aid” meant to model an artillery shell for display and training, not a real explosive.
The resurfaced image sparked backlash days after an Israeli airstrike killed civilians in Gaza. Some also criticized Evans after a politician was photographed writing “finish them” on an Israeli artillery shell.
With his post, Evans aimed to correct the “misinformation” about him appearing to autograph a missile or bomb. He made clear the object was solely for military training purposes.
