Captain America: Brave New World is back filming in Atlanta this week with some additional photography. And an exciting new actor has joined the cast!
Giancarlo Esposito, who had been hinting at a Marvel role, is now officially part of the movie. Sources say he will play a villainous character, though details are being kept secret.
The reshoots will last 22 days and add some new action sequences to the film. Director Julius Onah is still at the helm.
Brave New World had originally finished filming before the Hollywood strikes began last year. While other Marvel movies like Thunderbolts and Blade were forced to shut down, this one managed to complete principal photography.
However, the strikes did delay the post-production process. When the actors strike ended in November, Marvel pushed the release date from July 2024 to February 2025 to allow time for reshoots and revisions based on test screenings.
Writer Matthew Orton was hired in December to work on new pages for the reshoots over the winter. But so far, this is the only planned batch of additional filming.
The political action thriller stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America. Kevin Feige has described it as a “relatively grounded” movie tonally similar to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
With Mackie’s character being a Black hero taking over an iconic American symbol, the film is seen as potentially impactful like Black Panther was in 2018.
Joining Mackie are Harrison Ford, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, Danny Ramirez, and Rosa Salazar.
