Nicolas Cage will bring Spider-Man Noir to life in a new live-action series called “Noir.” The show has been ordered by MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video. It will first air on MGM+’s channel, then launch globally on Prime Video.
Cage previously voiced the character in the animated movie “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” But this will be the first live-action portrayal of Spider-Man Noir.
The series follows an aging private eye (played by Cage) in 1930s New York City. He has to face his past life as the city’s only superhero.
The show comes from Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will be co-showrunners and executive producers. They worked with the “Into the Spider-Verse” team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, who are also executive producing.
Amazon and Sony announced the series ahead of Amazon’s advertising event in New York on Tuesday. They expressed excitement over having Cage star as the noir version of the iconic Marvel character.
This will be Cage’s first regular television role. He is best known for his acclaimed film work, including an Oscar win for “Leaving Las Vegas.” Some of his other popular movies are “Moonstruck,” “Face/Off,” and the “National Treasure” films.
“Noir” is the second Sony-Marvel project greenlit at Amazon, after the previously announced “Silk: Spider Society” series. Sony controls over 900 Marvel characters associated with Spider-Man.
