Mad Max Director Talks About Stars’ Fight
George Miller is the director of the new movie “Furiosa”. It is a prequel to his 2015 hit film “Mad Max: Fury Road”. As “Furiosa” gets ready for its big premiere and release, Miller talked about the famous fight between the stars of “Fury Road” – Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron.
Miller said the root of their fight was that Hardy and Theron had very different acting styles. He said Hardy has a “damaged brilliance” and sometimes needed “coaxing” to come out of his trailer. But Theron, who was trained as a dancer, was always disciplined and on set first.
Miller stayed positive, saying their clashing acted out the characters’ struggle to cooperate. Still, he admitted such disruptions should be avoided despite great performances.
Both Hardy and Theron have owned up to their bad behavior, blaming the grueling filming schedule and lack of trust in each other. A camera crew member recalled one big blowup that really sparked the feud.
Theron showed up on time at 8am but Hardy infamously never did for morning calls. This day, Hardy was three hours late while Theron waited made up in her costume. When he finally arrived, Theron cursed him out for being disrespectful.
For “Furiosa”, Miller told new stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth they must prioritize safety – physical but also psychological – saying “It’s not like the wild old days.”
The new “Furiosa” movie hits theaters on May 24th.
