Brian Cox, the acclaimed actor known for his role in the hit TV series “Succession,” has sparked controversy with his scathing remarks about the Bible and organized religion.
In a recent appearance on the “The Starting Line” podcast, Cox did not mince words when expressing his disdain for the holy book. “The Bible is one of the worst books ever, for me, for my point of view,” he stated bluntly.
Cox took particular issue with the biblical story of Adam and Eve, criticizing those who believe in it as “stupid enough.” He condemned the Bible as “essentially patriarchal” and dismissed it as “propaganda.”
“We have to honor (women), and we have to give them their place and we’re resistant to that because it’s Adam and Eve. I mean, the propaganda goes right way back,” Cox said. “The Bible is one of the worst books ever, for me, from my point of view.
“Because it starts with the idea that out of Adam’s rib, this woman was created, and (people will) believe it cause they’re stupid enough.”
The outspoken actor argued that religion is often used as a means of control, stating, “If God says this and God does that, and you go, ‘Well, what is God?’ We’ve created that idea of God, and we’ve created it as a control issue.”
Cox’s comments have ignited a heated debate, with some applauding his candor and others condemning his remarks as disrespectful to religious beliefs. Regardless of one’s stance, his statements have undoubtedly reignited the age-old discourse surrounding the role of religion in modern society.
This is not the first time Cox has courted controversy with his outspoken views. Previously, he stirred backlash for defending author J.K. Rowling’s anti-trans tweets and for his controversial takes on “woke culture.”
As the discourse surrounding Cox’s latest comments continues to unfold, one thing is certain: the veteran actor remains unapologetic in expressing his opinions, however provocative they may be.
