In a revealing interview, actress Sharon Stone has opened up about feeling pressured by a Hollywood producer to have sex with her co-star Billy Baldwin during the filming of the 1993 thriller “Sliver.” Stone claims the late producer Robert Evans, who worked on the movie, suggested she sleep with Baldwin to improve his on-screen performance.
During an appearance on the “Louis Theroux Podcast,” the 66-year-old actress recounted a conversation with Evans, who allegedly told her, “If I slept with Billy Baldwin, Billy Baldwin’s performance would get better.” According to Stone, Evans reasoned that having intimate relations with her co-star would enhance their on-screen chemistry, which he believed was the problem with the film.
“He’s running around his office in his sunglasses, explaining to me that he slept with Ava Gardner and I should sleep with Billy Baldwin,” Stone recalled. “And we needed Billy to get better in the movie, because that was the problem.”
Stone expressed her disbelief at Evans’ suggestion, stating, “If I could sleep with Billy, then we would have chemistry onscreen, and if I would just have sex with him then that would save the movie.”
The “Basic Instinct” star contrasted her experience with that of working with Michael Douglas, her co-star in the previous year’s hit film. “I didn’t have to f— Michael Douglas. Michael could come to work and just know how to hit those marks and do that line, and rehearse and show up. Now all of a sudden I’m in the ‘I have to f— people’ business,” she said.
A representative for Billy Baldwin did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Stone’s revelations shed light on the alleged pressures and inappropriate behavior actresses faced in Hollywood, even from powerful producers. Her candid discussion is part of her ongoing efforts to address such issues within the industry.
