Artist Anna Marie Tendler is pulling no punches in her highly-anticipated memoir, “Men Have Called Her Crazy,” set for release on August 13th. The book chronicles her journey through heartbreak, mental health struggles, and finding her voice as a woman in the wake of her divorce from comedian John Mulaney.
In an Instagram post on March 5th, Tendler expressed her pride in the work, stating, “I have been writing this book for two years. More accurately though, I have been writing it for close to four decades. I have never been more proud of any work.”
The 38-year-old artist shed light on the book’s themes, revealing, “It is a story about mental health; about being a woman; about family. And finally, about the endless source of my heartbreak and rage—men.”
Tendler’s heartache became public knowledge in May 2021 when she released a statement confirming her split from Mulaney after six years of marriage. “I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage,” she said at the time, wishing him “support and success” in his ongoing recovery from addiction.
Months later, Mulaney filed for divorce and quickly moved on with actress Olivia Munn, with whom he welcomed a son in November 2021.
Tendler’s pain was compounded last year by the loss of her beloved French bulldog, Petunia, whom she shared with Mulaney throughout their marriage. In a poignant essay for Elle, she described the dog as a “constant” through the tumultuous chapters of her life, providing unconditional love and companionship.
With “Men Have Called Her Crazy,” Tendler seems poised to share her unvarnished truth, promising an unflinching exploration of womanhood, mental health, and the complexities of heartbreak.
