Veteran character actor Wendell Pierce, known for his roles in “The Wire” and “Jack Ryan,” has landed the part of Daily Planet editor Perry White in James Gunn’s hotly anticipated “Superman” film, according to sources.
Pierce joins a star-studded cast that includes Nicholas Hoult as the villainous Lex Luthor and rising talent David Corenswet as the Man of Steel himself. Production on the first DC Studios superhero film is already underway.
In the comics and previous films, Perry White is the head honcho at the Daily Planet, Metropolis’ top newspaper. He oversees all reporters and stories, including ace journalists Lois Lane and Clark Kent. Perry is known for being a tough, demanding boss who pushes his team to get the scoop.
This new take on the Superman mythos will explore the character’s alien roots and human upbringing as he strives to find balance between the two worlds. Gunn penned the script himself, utilizing the iconic characters first dreamed up by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
Pierce has built an impressive resume playing complex, multi-layered characters in projects like HBO’s seminal crime drama “The Wire” and Amazon’s action series “Jack Ryan.” He brings gravitas and depth to the role of Perry.
