Turns out that even celebrities have normal people mishaps when it comes to the digital stuff. This happened to Rob Lowe, who messaged Bradley Cooper accidentally instead of Robert Downey Jr. Lowe wanted to congratulate the latter for winning the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. Instead, he sent the message to Bradley Cooper, who lost in both the Golden Globes categories he was nominated in.
Lowe told Jimmy Kimmel that he was “excited” after Downey Jr. won, after listening to his acceptance speech. He goes on to text, “So glad you won! That was the most beautiful acceptance speech I have heard in a long time. Boy do you deserve it.”
Only after sending the message did Lowe realize his mistake. “I just sent that to Bradley Cooper,” he remarks embarrassedly.
Lowe says he put the “wrong numbers under the wrong names,” leading to his mishap. He also wanted to make it up to Cooper, but doing so would rub salt in his wounds. Lowe made matters worse for himself too, managing to mistakenly message Cooper, again.
But the Maestro actor and director took the accident in stride. Cooper made light of the incident, saying he “[liked] living vicariously through these mistakes.” The actor still hasn’t received any major awards for his performance as Leonard Bernstein this year. Cooper lost to Oppenheimer in both categories he was nominated in for the Golden Globes.
Downey Jr. and Lowe happen to be former high school classmates, both having attended Santa Monica High School. On the latter’s podcast, Downey Jr. remarked how he was jealous of Lowe, who had already begun an acting career.
Robert Downey Jr., however, seems to be on a roll this award season. He marked the start of it with a win at the Golden Globes, and a second at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Also lined up are possible wins at the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards, and the BAFTAs. Downey Jr. fans are still waiting for the big, shiny one at the Academy Awards, whose nominations arrive January 23rd.
