The new Star Wars movie has us all excited, including its lead Daisy Ridley. Not much is known about the film, but Ridley says that the film is going in a “different direction.” Lucasfilm announced that the new Star Trek film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who was also behind Ms. Marvel.
In an interview with AlloCiné, Ridley was beyond excited talking about the upcoming installment. She reprises her role as Rey Skywalker, since her last appearance in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Ridley doesn’t give away anything about the new movie, except that it’s a “fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world.” She seems to have her heart set on it, saying that “it was something [she] really wanted to do.”
The upcoming film is set 15 years after Rise of Skywalker, and centers on Rey building a new Jedi order. It was announced last year at London’s Star Wars celebration, and Ridley told Collider that she was extremely nervous about it all. “The story is really cool,” says Ridley about the new movie. The movie will be written by Steven Knight, who also wrote for Peaky Blinders.
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is the first woman and person of color to helm a Star Wars movie. She has been lauded for her work in Ms. Marvel, and fans are expecting the same effort for this movie. She told CNN, “I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special.”
Obaid-Chinoy’s movie is part of the three new Star Wars films announced at the London celebration. The other two films will be directed by James Mangold and Mandalorian director Dave Filoni. It is also unknown whether the Ridley-starrer Star Wars movie will be a part of a series. “… I know the story of one film, and I think people will be very excited,” said Ridley.
