Much to our disappointment, our much loved Barbie is taking a break from acting. Margot Robbie said that she won’t be returning to sets for now, because of the overexposure that came from Barbie’s success. She said that she should “probably disappear from screens for a while,” given her constant presence in the media last year. She will however, go full steam ahead as producer at her very own LuckyChap Entertainment.
Speaking with Deadline, Robbie traced her career work as producer, going over her MO. She said that she hadn’t been on a set since October 2022, when filming for Barbie wrapped. She fears that everyone is “probably sick at the sight” of her, hinting at how Barbie was everywhere last summer. Robbie feels that another film where she acts would be off-putting to the audience. She is unsure of when she would be acting next, but prefers that it is “a little while away.”
Barbie’s tremendous success cemented Robbie as a producer, adding to LuckyChap Entertainment’s stellar line of work. She also produced Saltburn, which is easily one of the most talked about movies this year. Her company already has its work cut out for the year, producing Olivia Wilde’s upcoming film Naughty. There is also some TV work lined up ahead. So, no, Margot Robbie as producer, is nowhere near a break.
In the interview, Robbie talked about all things cinema, showing her love for the process that goes behind a film. She also hinted at approaching the director’s chair in the future, saying that she “would really love to direct.” Robbie says she doesn’t know how long she can “hold off” this desire of hers, but wasn’t in any rush. She will, however, still be in the buzz because of the award season, already taking home a Golden Globe win.
As for acting, the surest news is that Robbie will be starring in the Ocean’s Eleven prequel. But that is still far away in the future, as the project is still in development for the moment. Robbie will be starring with Ryan Gosling in the film, and that has already started to brew up a chatter.
