Robert Pattinson claims that he once spent six months sleeping and eating on an inflated vessel because he had no other furnishings. During an interview with Architectural Digest concerning a newly designed ear-shaped sofa, the 37-year-old actor narrated how he lived with very little home furnishings. “There was a time when the only piece of furniture I had for about six months was an inflatable boat that would double as my couch, bed, and dining table,” Pattinson stated to Architectural Digest. The actor said he enjoyed it “very much,” but the inflatable kayak wasn’t the most comfortable and gave him a lot of back pain. Mercifully, Pattinson’s orthopedic discomfort is now gone.
The actor who gained popularity as Edward Cullen in the vampire blockbuster series “Twilight Saga” may also call himself a furniture designer. He just debuted a white velvet sofa that he contributed to designing. After filming “The Batman,” in which he plays the lead role, in 2022, Pattinson made his debut in furniture design, according to AD. “I started sketching pieces of furniture I thought would make people interact in a playful and informal way,” Pattinson stated to AD. “They all had disproportionate, oversized elements that were quite fun.”
According to AD, the actor realized that his invention resembled an ear because of the lobe-shaped curves of the sofa. Pattinson brought his ideas to life in collaboration with interior designer Nicole Gordon, with whom he had previously collaborated. Pattinson’s couch is currently on show at JF Chen, a furniture retailer in Los Angeles. Joel Chen, a well-known furniture trader, operates the store and counts Jennifer Aniston and the Olsen twins among his famous clientele. There are also six made-to-order sections of Pattinson’s sofa up for grabs; the price of each is unknown.
