Although Jack Nicholson hasn’t declared retirement, it appears like he won’t be starring in any more films anytime soon, and perhaps for the best reason ever. Whilst Nicholson hasn’t been in a movie for 13 years (his most recent appearance was in the 2010 romantic comedy How Do You Know), he has excellent cause for declining roles. As per the podcast WTF With Marc Maron, Nicholson’s only desire is to unwind.
“A friend of mine wanted to put him in a movie,” Maron remarked while speaking with Nicholson’s friend Lou Adler (H/T TheWrap). “And he had a conversation with him. But Jack says, ‘I don’t want to do it.’ He goes, ‘You know what I did today? I sat under a tree and I read a book.'” “Jack’s doing whatever he really wants to do. He wants to be quiet,” Adler stated. “He wants to eat what he wants, he wants to live the life he wants.”
Nobody can argue against Nicholson’s current tranquil life, given his diverse career that included roles in films such as The Shining, Batman, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, and many more. In addition, even after all these years, his performances remain priceless treasures. Consider his performance as Jack Torrance in The Shining. A keen-eyed scholar of Stanley Kubrick observed that Nicholson’s Jack repeatedly and eerily breaches the fourth wall in the film.
