The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office will need to do more investigation before determining the precise cause of actor Matthew Perry’s demise at his home on Saturday, judging by office records. On Sunday afternoon, the medical examiner amended Perry’s web record, indicating that his cause of death was “deferred.” The LA coroner’s instructions state that “In cases where the cause of death cannot be determined at the time of autopsy, a deferred certificate will be issued until additional studies have been completed.”
The precise cause of Perry’s death has been ascertained through an autopsy, but toxicology test conclusions are still pending, according to the medical examiner’s office, which told CNN on Sunday. Completing these reports can take several weeks. According to a law enforcement source, investigators intend to utilize the toxicology tests to ascertain whether any foreign chemicals may have played a role in Perry’s death.
Perry’s death is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division; however, no foul play has been suggested, according to a law enforcement insider who spoke to CNN. Records from the medical examiner showed on Sunday that the actor’s remains were prepared for distribution to his surviving relatives. Spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department Brian Humphrey told CNN that a water rescue incident was reported via 911 on Saturday at 4:07 p.m. When the LAPD arrived at 4:10 p.m., they quickly declared the call to be a death investigation.
Perry was discovered “unconscious in a stand-alone jacuzzi,” an LA Fire Department spokesman said in a statement to CNN on Monday. Amid the police response, Perry’s parents, John Bennett Perry, and Suzanne Morrison, as well as his stepfather, “Dateline” correspondent Keith Morrison, were observed making their way to the actor’s residence on Saturday night.
People magazine received a statement from Perry’s family on Sunday in which they expressed their condolences “heartbroken at the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother.”
The statement read, “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
