The upcoming Ocean’s 11 prequel, which will reunite Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling for a new movie, is being teased by Josey McNamara. “They’re wonderful together. The more projects even outside of that we can have them do would be amazing,” McNamara told Games Radar on the Saltburn red carpet at the BFI London Film Festival. While remaining mute about the movie’s actual plot, McNamara hinted that it would “do right by the franchise.” Mcnamara stated, “I can’t really say much, but I think we’re just trying to do right by the franchise. I’m excited for people to experience it when it’s ready.”
The prequel, centered around 1960s Europe, was written by Carrie Solomon, and the movie has been in “active development” at least this past year. Together with Roach and Michelle Graham for Everyman Pictures, Robbie and Tom Ackerly will be producing for LuckyChap. In addition to Village Roadshow, Gary Ross, Olivia Milch, and LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara will executive produce the film. Village Roadshow may also together fund it.
Inspired by the 1960 Rat Pack film, Steven Soderbergh started the Ocean’s franchise in 2001. The movie, which made over $450M worldwide, starred George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts. Ocean’s Thirteen would be released in 2007, and Ocean’s Twelve would follow in 2004. With a cast dominated by women, including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Awkafina, Helena Bonham Carter, and Rihanna, Ocean’s 8 was released in 2018.
