Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated film ‘Oppenheimer’ is the upcoming big blockbuster. However, the most astonishing revelation revealed from the film is the existence of discrete sex scenes, which were much unexpected by the spectators as Nolan had never previously shown intimate moments in his previous works. Surprisingly, there is evidence to support this discovery. ‘Oppenheimer’ is a biography of Robert Oppenheimer, portrayed by Cilian Murphy, who was widely regarded as the father of the atomic bomb. It was widely rumored that the physicist was promiscuous and practiced infidelity. There is no doubt in the fact that Robert Oppenheimer possessed good looks as well as intellect. The nation in which the physicist lived was opposed to the communists, but Robert had a relationship with one, which landed him into trouble later in life. In an interview with the Insider, Nolan had an entirely different approach towards the matter.
“When you look at Oppenheimer’s life and you look at his story, that aspect of his life, the aspect of his sexuality, his way with women, the charm that he exuded, it’s an essential part of his story.”
“It felt very important to understand their relationship and to really see inside it and understand what made it tick without being coy or allusive about it, but to try to be intimate, to try and be in there with him and fully understand the relationship that was so important to him,” he said
The tale of the physicist contained certain twists and turns which were unpredictable and unforeseen. His sexuality made up his character and his character made him a man which may be perceived right in his own way. His communist lover, Jean Tatlock, portrayed by Florence Pugh was the outright cause for his aberrant fate. The irony is although he married Kitty, played by Emily Blunt, he maintained his affair with Tatlock.Humanity is well aware that fate operates in a perverse manner. After a decade when his atomic weapon was pronounced successful, his security clearance was revoked in 1954, presumably because he was related to communist affiliations. There was no hint in Nolan’s remarks about his hesitation in including sex scenes in ‘Oppenheimer’. He said-
“Any time you’re challenging yourself to work in areas you haven’t worked in before, you should be appropriately nervous and appropriately careful and planned and prepared.”
Nolan had been much more inclined to cast Cilian Murphy and Florence Pugh in the movie ‘Oppenheimer’ presumably after their remarkable roles in former’s Netflix series “Peaky Blinders” and latter’s, ‘The Wonder’ and ‘Midsommar’. Nolan acknowledged his cast members and thoughtfully remarked that he could bring Tatlock to life through Florence Pugh’s portrayal of Jean Tatlock.
